Recap: Equine & Hiking Day-Retreat

I can’t even begin to express the gratitude I feel for this experience, our hosts at Sunset Beach made it so welcoming and knocked it out of the park with the EAGALA equine therapy experience.

I’m going to be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect from this, but it turned out to be so so powerful and to witness so many shifts in our guests in such a short time– it’s kind of magical.

The EAGALA experience feels very ‘hands-off’ from the guide, and it’s meant to be. Our group was given instruction to simply do what we felt called to with the horses and to listen to what we might be learning from them.

Some gals in our group went from a near-phobia of horses to being up close and personal –petting and even having a little lay-down in the field with Baby Max as he took an afternoon nap.

There was release – unexpected tears and some incredible shifts, I put my camera down not long into the experience as it felt almost, un natural to capture what was happening. It wasn’t all meant for eyes, but just for our hearts. A little cheesy? Maybe, but all facts.

I truly wasn’t expecting to witness so much soft bravery and honest, life changing moments from what could be perceived as simply petting horses.

From our equine experience, we moved on to lunch and a workshop! We took in some practical tips about nervous system regulation and how to find joy in small moments –even when feeling overwhelmed. What a great presentation that was!

After lunch and our workshop, we said goodbye to the horses and headed on a convoy to a beautiful Saskatchewan hike.

A day very well spent and now so far one of my favourite Being Brave Club experiences.
